What Are Cookies
As is common practice with almost all professional websites this site uses cookies, which are tiny files that are downloaded to your computer, to improve your experience. This page describes what information they gather, how we use it and why we sometimes need to store these cookies. We will also share how you can prevent these cookies from being stored however this may downgrade or 'break' certain elements of the sites functionality.
For more general information on cookies see the Wikipedia article on HTTP Cookies.
How We Use Cookies
We use cookies for a variety of reasons detailed below. Unfortunately in most cases there are no industry standard options for disabling cookies without completely disabling the functionality and features they add to this site. It is recommended that you leave on all cookies if you are not sure whether you need them or not in case they are used to provide a service that you use.
Disabling Cookies
You can prevent the setting of cookies by adjusting the settings on your browser (see your browser Help for how to do this). Be aware that disabling cookies will affect the functionality of this and many other websites that you visit. Disabling cookies will usually result in also disabling certain functionality and features of this site. Therefore it is recommended that you do not disable cookies.
By using this website with cookies enabled in your browser settings, you agree to cookies being used as follows:
The Cookies We Set
Analytics are used to track and measure usage of this site so that we can continue to produce engaging content. These cookies may track things such as how long you spend on the site or pages you visit which helps us to understand how we can improve the site for you. We store all our analytics data on our own servers, and do not use third party analytics services.
Drupal uses a cookie to track whether or not your browser has Javascript enabled. This allows the website to enable or disable features accordingly, to ensure the website works as expected for your particular browser setup.
Third Party Cookies
This website includes ads served by Google AdSense, along with their third party advertising networks. Cookies are stored on your computer as a result of this. There is a separate page that explains ad personalisation, along with the option to opt out of ad personalisation on this website. You'll also find links to the privacy information pages of all the advertising networks used.
Mandlebrot Explorer is an affiliate of Zazzle. If you follow links from this website to Zazzle you would do so subject to the Zazzle Privacy Policy. Our outbound links to Zazzle may contain a tracking code to identify us as the referring site, so that Zazzle can pay us a small royalty for any products you buy with them. This is solely to fund the continued development of Mandelbrot Explorer
Privacy within the Mandelbrot Explorer application
Mandelbrot Explorer contains a feature that allows it to contact this website to report the version it is using. All data sent in this way is anonymous, and cannot be traced back to you. By using the software, you agree to this feature being used. We use this process to maintain an understanding of how many active users there are for different versions of the software, so we can appropriately support older versions. We also use it to notify you if there is an updated version of the software, to help you keep up to date, but you can turn off those notifications within the application if you wish.
There are links within the application to Zazzle and Facebook. You can choose to upload pictures you've created to your Facebook wall (along with a caption you choose), and you can choose to send pictures to Zazzle to be printed onto custom merchandise. If you use those features to connect to the corresponding websites then you are subject to the privacy policy of those websites, but the software itself does not otherwise send any information to those third party sites.
More Information
Hopefully that has clarified things for you and as was previously mentioned if there is something that you aren't sure whether you need or not it's usually safer to leave cookies enabled in case it does interact with one of the features you use on our site. However if you are still looking for more information then you can contact us by email.
